‘We Are The World’

‘We Are The World’

Humans beings are social creatures. We thrive on connection. This is apparent through our familial structures, norms within cultures, as well as the existence of society at large. We form relationships, due in large part to the fact that we have only ourselves to identify with otherwise. Meaning, we learn who we are in a relative way. Each of us is an individual. Together we make up larger groups, from couples or pairs/partnerships, to families, villages, tribes, communities and societies. But, we can all identify with being human. Our cultural, demographic, ethnographic and socioeconomic differences aside, we’re one and the same. There is infinite variety to the individual experience, as no two experiences are the identical. For example, the chances we see color in a similar way is nearly zero percent. Across the board you’ll see this variance. We are in worlds of our own, in essence; we see, hear, taste, think, and feel differently from each other. And it is beautiful… this wide spectrum of humanity. With an innate desire to relate, and to understand ourselves, and each other, we end up living lives colored by the richness of our connections. Given shared perspectives, for example, we live somewhat vicariously, through each other, whilst living our own lives, and thus, ‘living together’. Our experiences, communities, environments/living conditions, etc. constantly mold, re-shape and harbor/nurture our growth by informing our perspectives and providing a scope for our perceptions to be focalized. But, we mustn’t forget to reflect on and remind ourselves that we are, by nature, the building blocks of these communities, environments, etc. It is true, ‘We Are The World’ so to speak.
