Complications

Complications

The workings of a watch beyond time-telling, are called complications. Due to the relative interconnectedness of the world and cosmos at large, we are all complications to each other, working to keep each other going and adding substance to the space in which we experience time. Each of our actions is a microcosmic input into the workings of the universe as a whole. And just like clockwork, it is only upon closer inspection that we see the complications working in real time. In most instances, we only see time passing, which in a clock or watch is shown by the movement of the hands along the dial; however, we cannot always see the driving forces that underly or complement that movement. We cannot always see the forest through the trees. The individual gear that is part of a system of complications in a timepiece is cannot be fully conscious of its importance in the overall mechanism. There is no way for that tiny gear to grasp the scope of its actions or even to differentiate between its actions and the functionality of the mechanism as a whole. We, as human beings are almost the same, with one distinct difference. Afforded perspective, we can see the importance or immediate results of our actions. We can learn how we affect others and better understand the consequences and/or contributions that stem from our actions. So, It is our level of awareness which guides us in purposeful action.
